How to Build a Colour Palette

Now that colour is being embraced in home fashion it is time to talk about how to incorporate colour in your major furniture pieces. We have a couple of suggestions about how to create a palette throughout your space.

FOCUS ON A BASE COLOUR

  1. start with a colour you’ve always loved for your major piece, like a sectional.

  2. use that colour as a base for patterned accessories like toss cushions that also bring in complementary colours.

  3. use those complementary colours from the pattern to bring in other accessories throughout the space.

FOCUS ON TONE

  1. start with a colour you’ve always loved for your major piece.

  2. determine the tone of the colour and bring in a single contrasting colour that has the same tone. For example if you choose a jewel tone for your sectional choose a contrasting jewel tone as your secondary colour.

  3. bring in patterned pieces that have one of your two colours that bring in either small pops of complimentary colours or bring in muted versions of your chosen colours.
