What size sofa or sectional will my space fit

Almost all living rooms are designed to fit a minimum of a sofa and love seat. This means that living rooms will fit a sectional since sectionals take up roughly the same amount of space while removing the corner end table and adding an extra seat or two instead.

The benefit of a sectional is the additional seating and a streamlined look. Gone are the days of small, numerous furniture pieces in favour of fewer, larger, more multifunctional pieces. This allows you to lounge on the sectional watching TV and host and seat all of your family and friends for special occasions.

CLIENT STORY

Our in-house designer made a house call to a woman living in a small condo who was ready to refresh her space. Her living room was host to a sofa, love seat, chair, several end tables and a coffee table. The room looked small and cramped and only sat a few people comfortably. As counter intuitive as it seemed at the time, the designer suggested a large, curvacous sectional. The client was willing to try and it dramatically changed the feel and look of the place. It opened up the space making it look like a much larger room, more modern, as well as providing seating for more guests.

TAKE AWAY TIP

A small space does not mean you need small pieces of furniture, it often is better suited to a single larger main piece to provide function and a streamlined look. This avoids feeling confined or cluttered.
