As Blue Moon continues to forge new paths with its innovation in the furniture industry the Exchange plays an important role as inspiration with its historic beauty and youthful energy.

Even Vogue Magazine has agreed that something special is happening in our city. “The Exchange District is North America’s largest and best preserved collection of heritage buildings. It’s also the city’s most up-and-coming neighbourhood, full of indie restaurants, bars, and shops selling super-covetable local goods.”

These days a walk through the Exchange sees upscale condos, riverfront parks with gardens rivalling Assinaboine park’s english gardens, the modernist Mere Hotel, cool restaurants, and world class retail. If you haven’t been to the east exchange for a while you will be very surprised! Not long ago the sights consisted of run down buildings and empty lots but those days aregone.

Bob Brown of Leon A Brown said about Waterfront North, ”it’s the newsest vibrant niehgbourhood in the city”. He recommended doing a walking loop that showcases the best the East Exchange has to offer. “Start at the Forks, walk up through the Waterfront Drive Riverwalk to the Circle condos, visible from the Disraeli bridge. Then head back stop by the local brewery or restaurants and shop the world class boutiques in the East Exchange before completing the loop and head back.

Blue Moon Furniture, Corydon Avenues former landmark showcasing a luminescent moon on top of its building, moved to the East Exchange four years ago to contribute to the Exchanges transformation. The new Blue Moon location can only be rivalled by a few spaces in Soho’s Meatpacking district in New York, rivalled but not surpassed.

The Exchange is the new Corydon, but better.  It is has evolved to become Winnipeg’s mecca for new businesses, millennials  and the patronage of the arts clientele. And on top of all this it is emerging as a design mecca.

The amalgamation of historic buildings and cutting edge design, like the award winning spaceship condos, creates the perfect inspiration for innovation. It is no wonder the plethora of architectural firms, designers and furniture stores are creating world class designs.

Blue Moon furniture attributes the inspiration for their new design, the Allegria sectional, to the East Exchange. The Allegria is a multi-configurational sectional with swap-able tailored covers creating a piece of furniture that easily transforms with the seasons like a well curated wardrobe. “The Allegria sectional is inspired by the transformation of the seasons in Winnipeg. We watch the leaves come out in spring, flowers appear, leaves disappear and turn to white..thus born the easy to changecovers!  The sectional can move around like the snow and ice creating different shapes and reinventing itself, all the while being comforting and feeling like home!”

Blue Moon’s love of Canada is apparent in the Allegria video series on their youtube channel: Blue Moon Furniture https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpi8tCQhBWRNa-KLD9wKJZQ . Our tempestuous climate is showcased in the videos as our typical wind swept ice covered landscape.

The East Exchange promises to continue the design discussion but also looks forward to the finishing of Sports Manitoba’s new facility that will house most of the excitement this summer when Canada celebrates her 150 years birthday with the  games at the centre of the celebrations and the east exchange and the Pacific Avenue becoming the epicentre of activity for the celebration.
